As a tribute to British textile designer, Lucienne Day, we started the Slow Textiles Workshop 11: 1950s Modernist Surfaces – Taking Inspiration from British Textile Designer Lucienne Day and X-ray Crystallography – with Print, Applique & Stitch on to Upcycled Fabric,  by talking and thinking of her as an inspiration to our own textile practices and central to our design heritage.

Bricolage’s temporary pop-up shop in Brixton Market, November 2009 – January 2010.

Today we went to Bricolage’s pop-up shop in Brixton Market.

Katherine May, one of the members of this exciting new London textile collective,  held her workshop there: “An Introduction to Patchwork Quilting.”

The Slow Textiles group thoroughly enjoyed it and has begun work inspired by the occasion. Come back soon to see!

V&A and Royal College of Art Digitized Textiles Archive

Yesterday we attended an event at the Royal College of Art (London, UK) that presented a very exciting new FREE textile design service: a downloadable archive of all of the Victoria and Albert Museum’s textile archive.

The ‘Business of Fashion’ Masterclass

This week we met Koodos entrepreneur Miriam Lahage.

She gave an inspirational talk at the Business of Fashion Masterclass.

Lahage gave refreshing voice to the creative potential of online dissemination.

For The Slow Textiles Group, this represents the dissemination of sewing skills and zero waste strategies that will generate DIY Fashion and Extended Life product and textile tools for all.
